American Freedom Campaign (S.F chapter)

This is a non-partisan meet-up group intended to foster discussion regarding the protection of basic civil liberties (the right to Habeas Corpus, constitutional safeguards against illegal detentions, etc.)

My hope is that collective brainstorming will lead to intelligent, peaceful political action, whether this involves writing letters to congress or organizing peaceful demonstrations.

I don't work directly for The American Freedom Campaign, but I want this meet-up group to focus somewhat narrowly on the agenda the AFC puts forth on their website: http://www.americ...

Specifically, this agenda includes shutting down the prison at Guantanamo Bay, repealing the Military Commissions Act of 2006, and passing The American Freedom Agenda Act (H.R. 3835).

One of the exciting things (for lack of a better word) about these dangerous and scary times is the rich potential for common ground and bi-partisan cooperation. Illegal detentions, wiretapping, and other assaults on our constitution threaten Republicans and Democrats (and Greens and Communists and Libertarians) equally.

I'm hoping this meet-up group will attract a broad coalition of concerned citizens.
